Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory in collaboration and technical sponsorship from IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section (which includes Uttarakhand state as well), is organizing an International Conference on Wireless Communication for Military Applications (WiCOMM-2026) at Dehradun from 30th to 31st Oct 2026. The conference focuses on secure, resilient and mission‑critical wireless communication and surveillance technologies for defence applications.
The conference provides a platform for Defence Scientists, Armed Forces, Academia and Industry within and outside India to exchange ideas in next‑generation defence communications and to get the reflection on the future roadmap of technologies.

Military wireless communication is vital because it enables fast, secure and flexible information exchange that directly determines the success or failure of modern operations. It underpins everything from battlefield coordination to strategic command, intelligence and logistics in all domains i.e. land, sea, air, space and cyber.
  • Core Operational Importance
    • Wireless systems let commanders and units share real-time voice, video, data; issue command, receive threat updates and status reports.
    • This real-time exchange increases situational awareness, enabling forces to react quickly to changing enemy positions, terrain and threats.
  • Mobility and Flexibility
    • Wireless networks remove dependence on fixed, wired infrastructure, allowing secure communication in remote, mobile and hostile environments where cables are impossible or may be easily destroyed.
    • Soldiers, vehicles, aircraft, ships, UAVs and sensors can all stay connected while on the move, maintaining a continuous operational picture during fast-paced manoeuvres.
  • Command, Control and Coordination
    • Modern command-and-control (C2) systems rely on wireless links to integrate dispersed units and platforms into a single responsive force, improving coordination and resource allocation.
    • Reliable wireless communication allows synchronized troop movements, joint operations between services and timely execution of complex plans, acting as a force multiplier.
  • Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance
    • Drones, satellites, ground sensors and other ISR assets use wireless channels to send live imagery, sensor feeds and targeting data back to command centres.

    • Military wireless systems integrate encryption, authentication and anti-jamming techniques to protect sensitive information from interception and electronic warfare.
